NBA: LeBron James suffers the biggest defeat of his career
LeBron James has suffered the biggest defeat of his NBA career. The basketball superstar lost 94:138 with the Los Angeles Lakers against the Philadelphia 76ers. He has never trailed by 44 points since his debut in the North American league in 2003.
"What has to change so that this doesn't happen again? A lot," said the 38-year-old after a game in which he didn't grab a single rebound and never had a real showdown with Joel Embiid on the other side.
Embiid, last season's Most Valuable Player (MVP), dominated the Lakers so obviously that he recorded a so-called triple double of 30 points and 11 assists and rebounds each after just three quarters and was not even on the court in the final quarter. The 76ers nevertheless decided the final quarter 40:14 in their favor.
In the 290 duels between the 76ers and the Lakers, there has never been a clearer defeat for the NBA record champions. The fact that James is now the basketball player with the most minutes played in the history of the NBA, replacing former Lakers pro Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the record holder, remained a side issue.
Defeat for Theis and the Clippers
Daniel Theis and the Los Angeles Clippers lost 104:113 at home to the Denver Nuggets, although the champions were without Serbian star Nikola Jokic due to back problems. The Clippers still led 90:80 at the start of the final quarter, but then the visitors turned the game around. World champion Theis scored four points in twelve minutes of action for his new team. Kawhi Leonard was the best scorer with 31 points, while Reggie Jackson stood out for Denver with 35 points and 13 assists.
In contrast to LeBron James' devastating loss with the Lakers, where he faced MVP Joel Embiid and the 76ers, resulting in a 44-point deficit, the Los Angeles Clippers, albeit without Serbian star Nikola Jokic, had a chance to secure a victory against the Denver Nuggets. However, Daniel Theis and the team failed to maintain their lead in the final quarter, ultimately losing 104:113. Kawhi Leonard led the scoring for the Clippers, while Reggie Jackson shone for Denver with 35 points and 13 assists.
