Following the Euro, football manager Julian Nagelsmann just added one fresh face to the team, namely midfielder Angelo Stiller from VfB Stuttgart. Stiller received his call-up 55 days after Germany's heartbreaking loss against Spain in the quarters, for their upcoming Nations League matches against Hungary on September 7 in Düsseldorf and against the Netherlands on September 10 in Amsterdam. As for the captain's spot, it's still unclear. Joshua Kimmich appears to be the top contender, with Nagelsmann planning to make his announcement on Monday in team quarters in Herzogenaurach.

With departures of Toni Kroos and captain İlkay Gündoğan, Nagelsmann needs to fill two midfield vacancies, he noted. The coach lauded Stiller for his impressive past performances and current form, saying: "For now, adequate changes in the team are sufficient. Generally, we were pleased with how each player performed at the Euro. We want to afford the Euro squad an opportunity to shine in the initial post-tournament games."

Notably absent is defender Antonio Rüdiger, who's now having a recovery break following an exhausting summer, much like Leroy Sané. Bayern player Sané should avoid being overworked after his groin operation. Serge Gnabry, his club colleague, however, was not brought back into the national team despite his impressive early-season form. Both Alexander Nübel (Stuttgart) and Aleksandar Pavlović (Bayern Munich) are back in the 23-man squad, absent at the Euro due to illness. According to plans, Terry Stegen (FC Barcelona) will step into the role of the new number one goalkeeper following Manuel Neuer's departure.

The German team will compete in six international matches this year, all of which are part of the Nations League. Their opponents include Hungary, the Netherlands, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, twice each by November. Currently, around 43,000 tickets out of the 49,235 tickets available for the Hungary match have been sold.

Nagelsmann expressed the need to replace Toni Kroos and captain Ilichtay Gundogan in the midfield, mentioning that Angelo Stiller, with his impressive performances and current form, is a potential fit. The national football team, missing some key players like Antonio Rudiger and Leroy Sane due to recovery breaks and injury, has brought back Alexander Nübel and Aleksandar Pavlovic into the squad for the upcoming Nations League matches.
