Nagelsmann dismisses talk about Neuer's future.
Julian Nagelsmann stands up for Manuel Neuer despite his error during Germany's EM warm-up game against Greece. He told RTL, "I won't allow any discussion, even though everyone is trying." The coach highlighted Neuer's successful saves, insisting, "He had three good saves, everything is fine."
During the game, Neuer experienced a misstep where he let a shot by Düsseldorf's Christos Tzolis bounce off his chest before Giorgos Masouras scored the 0:1 goal in the 34th minute. Nagelsmann countered the criticism, "It's always the cross of the goalkeeper: If you don't solve a situation perfectly, it's always a goal."
Lothar Matthäus, a former national player, pointed out a recurring personal mistake by Neuer. He commented on RTL, "Not only with the national team, but also at Bayern Munich, he doesn't have the assurance." Despite this, Matthäus did not suggest replacing Neuer, believing it inappropriate "a week before the EM." He added, "He had his saves. But of course, it can't be denied that people will discuss this, and that's something Julian is aware of."
Neuer had demonstrated a top-class performance in the Champions League semi-final return match against Real Madrid but made an unfortunate mistake that resulted in elimination for Bayern. In the last Bundesliga matchday, he had several mishaps. However, in his return to the DFB goal against Ukraine on Monday (0:0), his performance was solid. Unfortunately, in the 88th minute, his chip shot failed, leading to the 0:1 that didn't count due to a subsequent offside.
