- Mincemeat and Martinis on every flight
As British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II (1926 - 2022) was often airborne during her lifetime. Recently, the estate of a deceased British Airways flight attendant, Elizabeth Evans, revealed mementos to the "Daily Mail" that shed light on the Queen's flying habits.
Hailing from Birmingham, Evans served as a flight attendant for the British airline for 28 years, including the Queen and Prince Philip's (1921 - 2021) tour through Singapore and Malaysia in 1989.
Mint candies, a glass of martini, and her own pillow
Among her collection are notes detailing specific instructions to the flight crew. For instance, the Queen enjoyed a glass of martini before greeting guests, a particular brand of mint candies had to be available before takeoff and in her dressing room, and she always brought her own pillow for sleeping.
The notes also advised not to disturb the Queen if she was still sleeping during landing. They also provided information on cocktail serving times and asked the Queen's preference for wine with dinner.
The collection of mementos will be auctioned by Hansons Auctioneers from August 15 to 20, with an estimated value of £400 to £600, according to the "Daily Mail".
During her flights, Queen Elizabeth II had specific preferences, such as requesting a glass of martini before meeting guests and requiring a certain brand of mint candies before takeoff and in her dressing room. Additionally, the Queen preferred to bring her own pillow for sleeping during flights.
