Football sport event - Midfield standout Lena Oberdorf may cause concern for the DFB team.

The German women's soccer team is set to lose their midfield star, Lena Oberdorf, for approximately seven weeks leading up to their Olympic debut. During a European Championship qualifier in Poland, Oberdorf, a 22-year-old freshman for Bayern Munich, sustained a painful blow to her left thigh during a collision in the 37th minute. She was replaced by a substitute shortly after. The German Football Association (DFB) later reported on Oberdorf's injury.

The injury occurred after Oberdorf received a yellow card for her team. She limped off the field, holding her left thigh before being aided by two caretakers. Oberdorf was eventually carried into the team cabin. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time. What is certain is that Oberdorf will miss the next qualifying match against Iceland on July 12 due to her second yellow card.

This was Oberdorf's 50th appearance on the international stage, and she got to captain the German team for the first time in a game that started with a 0:1 deficit at halftime. Oberdorf's likely absence in the Olympics would significantly affect the chances of Horst Hrubesch's team in earning a medal at the Paris Games.

Germany will open the Olympics against Australia on July 25 and will also face record world champions USA on July 28 and Zambia on July 31.

Despite the injury, Lena Oberdorf expressed her determination to recover quickly and support the DFB team in their upcoming qualification matches, particularly the game against Gdynia, Poland. The German women's soccer team is currently in the process of European Championship qualification, with their next match scheduled against Greece on July 6.

The news of Oberdorf's injury has sparked concerns within the German Football Association (DFB), as they aim to secure a spot in the European Championship and prepare for the upcoming Olympics in Paris. Oberdorf has been a crucial part of the DFB team and the Bayern Munich women's squad, with her skillful midfield play often making headlines.

Meanwhile, the German women's team has other promising talents, such as Alexandra Popp and Sara Däbritz, who can fill in the void left by Oberdorf during her recovery period. However, losing Oberdorf for a significant amount of time could affect the team's overall strategy and cohesion, potentially limiting their chances of winning major tournaments.

As a result, the DFB team and the German women's soccer community have rallied around Oberdorf in her time of need, offering their support and encouragement as she works to overcome her injury and return to the field.

Furthermore, the injury may offer an opportunity for other young players in Germany to showcase their skills and make a name for themselves in the international soccer scene, potentially strengthening the German women's soccer team even further.
