While at Chelsea FC, Michael Ballack acquired a rare Ferrari. The retired footballer plans to sell this particular car. A prestigious auction house values this vehicle at a hefty sum.

As reported by the Sun, Michael Ballack, a former German national team player, has decided to sell a vintage automobile from his personal collection. The sports car in question is a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider. Sotheby's, a prominent auction house, is handling the transaction, with the sale taking place in California. The corporation claims that the vehicle they are auctioning is indeed the first of its kind ever built.

This 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider will be up for grabs for the first time in 16 years, as the auction house puts it, "from a highly regarded private collection." In the last 60 years, the car has had a mere three long-term owners. Sotheby's estimates the value of the Spider to be in the range of $16 to $18 million, which is roughly €14.5 to €16.5 million.

The former professional footballer acquired the car during his tenure at Chelsea FC. Over a span of four years, Ballack represented Chelsea in 167 games between 2006 and 2010. The influence of close friend Michael Schumacher, then in Ferrari's racing team, also played a part in the acquisition.

A spokesperson from Sotheby's remarked to the newspaper, "It's not common to find a car that ticks all the boxes for a remarkable collector's piece, such as this California Spider. With its iconic status, it holds a special place in Ferrari's history." Ballack has been preserving the vehicle in good condition.
