Tunes or melodies Paraphrased: Tunes or melodies for listening pleasure - Metal Queen Doro Pesch Celebrates 60th Birthday
Initially, the singer planned to mark her 60th birthday in Brazil with her admirers. However, the Wacken folk may have had something up their sleeve, so she opted for Düsseldorf on June 3rd. Doro Pesch, the powerhouse heavy metal vocalist, expressed her amusement about her upcoming birthday surprise.
"I can't recall who's even celebrating a birthday," she chuckled, adding that she feels "like I'm 25 and as fit as I was at 18." Her surprise party, masterminded by the Wacken Open Air Festival team, was just getting underway.
Fans from all corners of the globe
"A week later, my most devoted fans from all over the world will arrive - from America, England, Brazil, and so on. Then we'll board a train through the scenic Düsseldorf old town," Pesch told the German Press Agency. "A couple of hundred people will be in attendance. They're already working diligently on some gifts. I'll likely need to hire a truck to carry the gifts."
Pesch's musical journey began as a singer in the band Snakebite, followed by Warlock, where she made significant waves in the industry. She quickly earned a place in the male-dominated heavy metal scene as one of the first female artists. With over ten million albums sold and over 3,500 concerts spanning 60 countries under her belt, she's now the undisputed "Queen of Metal" worldwide. Düsseldorf-native, Pesch's tumultuous life has seen her move from her birthplace to Miami, Florida, following hurricane damage to her Long Island, New York home.
"I'd be as proud as a sopping wet chicken," she recalls about receiving honourary treatment at the Düsseldorf Town Hall recently. Other musicians present included Vom Ritchie (Toten Hosen), Sammy Amara (Broilers), and Ralf Döpper (Krupps).
All she has planned besides events in Wacken and boxing against Stefan Raab in Düsseldorf, is recording for the 40th anniversary of her career. "There's a commemorative box of live recordings we're working on as well."
The temporary Lisa Marie Presley and Alice Cooper collaborator spoke of her hectic schedule, crowded with upcoming metal festivals in Belgium and Spain. "Obviously, I'm supposed to be on the Heavy Metal Cruise at that time," she added. "Regina is one of my best friends." To top things off, "right now, we're in the midst of production, besides live performances, we're also working on the commemorative box for my stage anniversary."
After facing the coronavirus pandemic, Pesch has built up her successful career once again. Her latest album, "Conqueress - Forever Strong And Proud," surfaced at the top of US radio charts for two weeks. "The festival scene worldwide is booming. They're practically sold out a year in advance. People crave to see live performances."
Doro Pesch doesn't divulge retirement plans, "I'll do it until the last possible moment - just like Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister. So long as I have the strength, I'm keen to keep going."
After the pandemic, Pesch rapidly carried on with her successful career in the hard rock industry. Her latest album (Conqueress - Forever Strong and Proud) topped the US radio charts for two weeks. "The entire festival scene worldwide is thriving. Most of them are already sold out a year in advance. People long to witness the artists live again. That's fantastic."
The singer initially intended to celebrate the milestone in Brazil with her adherents, but the Wacken group had other plans, so Düsseldorf is now the scene of her birthday, on June 3rd amid a jam-packed schedule.
"It's a mystery to me who's festooned with candles on their cake," she says with amusement. "I still feel as if I was in my prime at 25, and I'm as resilient as I was at 18."
