Media: BVB working on sensational transfer
Is the prodigal son returning to Borussia Dortmund? Jadon Sancho has been dropped from the Manchester United squad and is now apparently considering a return to his feel-good oasis. The Bundesliga club could finance the transfer with a swap.
According to a media report, England international Jadon Sancho could return to Borussia Dortmund this winter. According to the newspaper "Bild", the Bundesliga club is planning a swap deal with Sancho's current employers Manchester United, as the Premier League club is said to be interested in BVB attacker Donyell Malen. Malen's clear goal is to move to England. Accordingly, Dortmund could initially loan out their ex-professional Sancho or settle accounts with Malen.
The 23-year-old Sancho played for BVB from 2017 to 2021, where he also became an England international. He moved to Manchester United for a transfer fee of at least €85 million and still has a contract there until mid-2026.
However, he no longer plays a sporting role in Manchester. This season, he made just three brief appearances in the league. Most recently, he was no longer a member of the professional squad and was no longer allowed to train with the team. Following his criticism of coach Erik ten Hag, the attacking player has fallen out of favor and the club is looking for a winter transfer.
Malen is apparently planning to leave
Sancho would probably have to accept significant financial sacrifices for his comeback in Dortmund. According to the report, he earns around 14 million euros per season in Manchester. The top earner at BVB is said to be defender Niklas Süle with around 12 million euros.
However, BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl rejected rumors of a Sancho return two months ago. That was not an issue at all at the moment, Kehl had said, adding: "We have enough options, at the moment we have a full squad."
However, that was also before Malen planned his departure. He recently changed his consultancy agency and is now represented by the Dutch agency SEG, with Maikel Stevens, the son of Schalke icon Huub Stevens, as his advisor. Such changes sometimes indicate plans for change. With a market value of 35 million euros, he is one of BVB's five most valuable players. His contract runs until 2026, but he is nowhere near as brilliant as he was last season. According to reports, BVB want exactly the same transfer fee of €30 million that the club paid to PSV Eindhoven in 2021.

Borussia Dortmund's potential swap deal with Manchester United could see Jadon Sancho return to his former club, where he previously shone in the Bundesliga soccer league. The English winger, currently earning around €14 million per season at Old Trafford, might have to accept a salary reduction for a potential comeback at Dortmund.
