MDR secures broadcast rights to the UFA production 'Sam - A Saxon'. The series celebrates its free TV premiere in September.

MDR has secured the rights to the UFA series "Sam - A Saxon", which has been available on the streaming service Disney+ since April 2023. The seven-part series, starring Malick Bauer (33) in the lead role, will air on free TV starting September 30th at 8:15 PM. This is according to the September program list from the broadcaster.

Grimme Award for "Sam - A Saxon"

The content of the UFA production is based on true events and tells the story of the first black police officer in East Germany in the early 1990s, his rise and fall. It's about Sam's desperate search for a home and his struggle for recognition and justice. In the turbulent years following German reunification, Sam becomes a media star - and eventually a criminal.

In March, "Sam - A Saxon" received a Grimme Award in the "Fiction" category. Starting September 29th, the seven episodes, each 50 minutes long, will also be available in the ARD media library.
