Mbappé requires a surgical procedure due to a broken nasal bone.
France's national soccer team is in a bind over Kylian Mbappé's injury. It's still uncertain if the star will need more time off after his nasal bone fracture, but Trainer Didier Deschamps has spoken up, albeit with less than welcome news.
The football sensation Kylian Mbappé is set to have surgery on his nasal bone fracture, as per National coach Didier Deschamps, though this isn't likely to happen immediately. "Even though it doesn't have to be right away, he will need to undergo surgery," stated the trainer in a video shared by the French Football Federation in the evening.
"There will be additional checks on Wednesday to see how things progress," said Deschamps, assessing the state of the 25-year-old attacker. "It seems the impact was significant. The medical team did everything they could to minimize the impact as much as possible," Deschamps added. An update on Mbappé's condition is expected on Wednesday.
Kevin Danso hopes for a speedy recovery
It's too soon to determine if Mbappé will play in France's second Euro game against the Netherlands on Friday. A prognosis is premature, said Federation President Philippe Diallo in Paderborn. French media suggest an early return may be possible. "Things improved a bit for him this morning, from now on, we'll take it one day at a time," said Deschamps.
National defender Kevin Danso, from Austria, expressed his hopes for a swift recovery for Mbappé this morning. Mbappé clashed with Danso's shoulder during Monday evening's 1:0 victory for France against Austria in Duesseldorf, resulting in a broken nose for the star. "To French fans: I'm sorry Kylian Mbappé got injured in our match. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can get back on the field soon," Danso wrote on Instagram. Danso previously played a season at Fortuna Duesseldorf before joining RC Lens three years ago.
