- Maximilian Beier moves to BVB
Maximilian Beier is set to replace Niclas Füllkrug at Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga side spent around 30 million euros in transfer fees to secure the services of young national team player Beier, who had switched to West Ham United. The 21-year-old, who was part of the European Championship squad with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, has signed a contract with Dortmund until June 30, 2029, both clubs announced. Beier had a contract with Hoffenheim until the summer of 2027.
"Maxi was our top choice after Niclas Füllkrug's departure. Despite his young age, he's already very mature on the pitch and stands out with his speed, work rate, and goal threat. Plus, he's versatile and can play in different systems," said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
Beier is expected to fill the void left by Füllkrug in Dortmund's attack and is also ten years younger than his predecessor. "From the first moment of my talks with Borussia Dortmund, I could feel how much they wanted me, and I had a great feeling. Our goals are the same: we want to win titles. I'll give everything to make that happen," said the Brandenburg-born Beier, who has scored 16 goals in 42 Bundesliga games and could make his debut in the DFB-Pokal against Phoenix Lübeck (6:00 PM) this Saturday.
Fifth new signing for BVB
Beier is the fifth new signing for Dortmund after Waldemar Anton, Serhou Guirassy (both from VfB Stuttgart), Pascal Groß (Brighton & Hove Albion), and Yan Couto (Manchester City). "We've been able to sign all five of our target players in this transfer period, including three national team players. Several top European clubs were after Maximilian, but we're very happy that we could convince him to join Borussia Dortmund quickly," said BVB's managing director Lars Ricken.
Beier's signing makes it more likely that striker Youssoufa Moukoko will leave the club. Moukoko's agent, Patrick Williams, recently complained publicly about the 19-year-old's lack of playing time. French clubs OSC Lille and Olympique Marseille are reportedly interested. Additionally, BVB talent Paris Brunner is close to a move to the French league, with AS Monaco showing interest in the 18-year-old.
After securing Beier from West Ham United, Borussia Dortmund has strengthened their attack further. Previously playing for West Ham United, Beier is now set to contribute to Borussia Dortmund's title-winning aspirations.
