Mavericks suffer first defeat of the season against Nuggets
The Dallas Mavericks have conceded their first defeat in their sixth NBA game of the season. The team led by superstar Luka Doncic was beaten 114:125 (55:70) by the Denver Nuggets, the champions of the North American Basketball League. The Nuggets moved past the Mavericks at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 5:1 wins.
The Nuggets scored 40 points in the first quarter and pulled away to a 20-point difference in the third. The defending champions were carried by Nikola Jokic: With 33 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists, the Serb only just missed out on his third triple-double of the season. Luka Doncic shone for Dallas with 34 points, ten rebounds and eight assists, while German national basketball player Maxi Kleber did not play due to a knee injury.
Curry throw-in clinches Warriors victory
In the game between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder, the referees stood by the video review for several minutes before the game-winning basket by superstar Stephen Curry was counted. Curry hit the shot with 0.2 seconds on the clock to give the Warriors their fifth win of the season in a 141:139 (69:67) away win. With 30 points, Curry was the game's best scorer.
Isaiah Hartenstein and the New York Knicks suffered their fourth defeat in the sixth game of the season, losing 105-110 (46-56) on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks. Damian Lillard led the way for the Bucks, scoring 15 of his 30 points in the final seven minutes of the game. Hartenstein finished with four points.
The NBA games were the first of the season to count not only for the main round, but also for the new tournament format introduced this season. The 30 teams have been divided into six groups and a winner will be determined in a knockout format at the beginning of December. The NBA hopes that this tournament will increase the excitement during the regular season.
The Dallas Mavericks' loss against the Denver Nuggets in the NBA puts their record at 5-1, while the Nuggets improve to 6-0 in the Western Conference. In another NBA game, Stephen Curry's last-second throw-in secured a 141-139 win for the Golden State Warriors against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
