Matthäus on BVB: "This is not a team"
According to TV pundit Lothar Matthäus, Borussia Dortmund's weaknesses in the Bundesliga point to a fundamental problem.
"It's not a team like Dortmund at the moment. Everyone is playing for themselves," said the record-breaking international footballer on the Sky90 program. In the recent league defeats against FC Bayern Munich (0:4) and VfB Stuttgart (1:2), BVB's performances were "subterranean", Matthäus judged.
But this was no exception. "It runs through the whole season. I haven't seen anything outstanding from Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season," said Matthäus.
After the defeat in Stuttgart, Dortmund are already ten points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Following the game, statements from national striker Niclas Füllkrug caused a stir. Perhaps they had not chosen "the perfect approach", the goalscorer speculated. This was seen by some as criticism of coach Edin Terzic.
"They're not working as a team at the moment," said Matthäus, adding: "Ultimately, the coach has to solve this problem." He expects "more aplomb and ease" from a top team with a well-stocked squad like BVB.
Lothar Matthäus, critiquing Borussia Dortmund's performance in the Bundesliga, mentioned, "Borussia Dortmund is not playing like a team right now, with everyone seemingly focusing on their individual performances." Furthermore, Matthäus, a former Bundesliga player and coach, highlighted Lothar Matthäus' Borussia Dortmund, saying, "During the Bundesliga season, I haven't seen any outstanding performances from the team."
