Mats Hummels prefers to remain at Borussia Dortmund if coach Terzić departs.
Mats Hummels' future negotiations with Borussia Dortmund are still undecided. His contract with the team is coming to an end soon, offering potential renewal options. However, it seems that his stay at Dortmund might be becoming less likely.
The 35-year-old footballer mentioned three possibilities for his future recently; extending his contract with Dortmund, joining a new club, or retirement. He seemed to favor remaining with the team but placed retirement as the least probable option.
However, sources from Sky claim that Hummels is requesting particular conditions to renew his contract. If coach Edin Terzic is removed from Borussia Dortmund, Hummels might agree to stay. Interestingly, this request has been acknowledged internally by club insiders.
Terzic's position may no longer be secure. After taking the team to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by Real Madrid, it is uncertain what their plans entail. Sky also mentions that a contract extension for Terzic is possible but not guaranteed. The coach will likely need to demonstrate his skills in the Bundesliga's first half. Last season, BVB saw a disappointing finish in 5th place.
Recent news suggests that Hummels and Terzic have been facing disagreements. The strained relationship has been in media attention with various conflicts, including disparaging comments about Terzic's tactics. During the Champions League final, prior to their loss to Real Madrid, Hummels had a controversial interview with "Sport Bild", criticizing Terzic's methods. Following recent defeats against VfB Stuttgart and in the DFB Cup, Hummels stated, "Borussia Dortmund should not play like this - against any opponent in the world."
He also reported a considerable amount of suggestions from his role as team captain to improve the situation, despite disputes with the coaching staff.
Hummels' possible departure from BVB appears increasingly likely. He is currently being connected to a transfer to Italy's AC Milan. Moving to North America in MLS or the desert in Saudi Arabia does not seem to be in his plans, according to Sky. Hummels has previously mentioned that, due to his son living in Munich, he would not want to be too far away and play there.
