Marketa Vondrousova will miss the US Open following her undergoing a shoulder operation.
The 25-year-old's title defense at Wimbledon came to an unexpected end in the first round against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in July, and Vondrousová revealed she's been dealing with shoulder issues for a while now.
"There was no other choice but to undergo surgery," she announced on Instagram. "The operation was successful, and I'll start rehab soon."
"I'll see you back on the court, feeling great and in good health."
Vondrousová, who was a finalist at the French Open in 2019, made it to the US Open quarterfinals last year – her best performance in New York. However, she's dropped to No. 22 in the world from her career-high of No. 6 due to failing to protect her ranking points at Wimbledon.
This was the first time since Steffi Graf was defeated by Lori McNeil in 1994 that the defending Wimbledon champion was eliminated in the opening round.
The US Open commences on August 26 and concludes on September 8.
Despite the shoulder issues, Vondrousová remains passionate about her love for tennis as a sport. Following her recovery, she aims to return to the court and showcase her skills once again.
