The son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit (50), Marius Borg Høiby (27), has spoken out for the first time ten days after his arrest on suspicion of bodily harm against his girlfriend. In an extensive statement, which was distributed via the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK, he fully admitted to the allegations. "Something happened last weekend that should never have happened," said the 27-year-old.

He admitted to causing bodily harm and damaging property in an apartment while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine after an argument. "I have several mental health issues that have caused me problems as a child and as an adult," Høiby explained further. He had struggled with drug abuse for a long time and had been in treatment for it. He would now resume and take this treatment very seriously.

However, he stressed that his drug problems should not be used as an excuse. He wanted to be held accountable for his actions and would only provide truthful information to the police. His girlfriend did not deserve what happened that night. He wanted to apologize to her. Høiby also regretted the pressure the media put on his girlfriend after the incident and the fact that she was pursued by photographers and journalists. This was hard for him to bear.

He also wanted to apologize to his family, knowing that his actions had deeply affected them: "So I apologize to you, my loved ones. This should never have happened, and I take full responsibility for my actions." A statement from the lawyer of the victim has also been released. It states that their client had been waiting and hoping for Høiby to admit what he had done.

Marius Borg Høiby was reportedly taken into temporary custody by the police last Sunday after an incident with a woman in an apartment in Oslo. The police confirmed to the magazine "Se og Hør" that an arrest and charge of bodily harm had been made. The unnamed person was "later released from custody." The magazine also writes that the woman, who is said to be between 20 and 30 years old, was taken to the hospital with a concussion.

The lawyer of the 27-year-old, who comes from a relationship before Mette-Marit's marriage to Haakon, later confirmed to the Norwegian "Dagbladet" that the person in question was Høiby. The Norwegian heir apparent Haakon (51) later said, when asked about his stepson, that it was a "serious matter." However, he thought it was right not to interfere in the case. But it was clear that this also affected him.

The weekend referred to in Marius Borg Høiby's statement was when the incident involving his girlfriend occurred. After the weekend, Høiby acknowledged that something regrettable happened that should never have occurred.
