Marc Guiu delivers potential candidate for the most disappointing miss of the year in Chelsea's Conference League triumph over Servette
Following Christopher Nkunku's penalty goal for Chelsea, giving them an early lead in the second half, Guiu had a brilliant opportunity to extend the advantage against Servette. He dispossessed Jérémy Frick, the Servette goalkeeper, and found himself one-on-one with the net.
However, Guiu's shot was less than impressive, lacking power and direction, allowing Frick to recover and make a save. The shot wasn't even close to the target.
To top it off, Guiu missed two more chances to score after his initial miss.
Despite Chelsea maintaining possession and pushing forward, Guiu remained dejected within the penalty area, looking stunned at his missed opportunities.
Luckily for Guiu, and Chelsea, Noni Madueke stepped up 20 minutes later, demonstrating a perfect finish by blasting a powerful shot into the near post. This score secured a strong lead for Chelsea going into the second leg next Thursday in Switzerland.
Post-match, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca jokingly commented on Guiu's miss, saying, "I told him he doesn't like easy goals, he prefers challenging ones. For me, it's just typical. He's young, born in 2006, and he's the youngest in the squad. His work off the ball is impressive. He runs a lot, presses hard, and I'm sure he'll score eventually."
Guiu expressed his love for football, often spending hours practicing his skills on the pitch, despite his miss during the game. In the midst of Chelsea's post-match celebrations, Guiu's teammates encouraged him, reassuring him that his chance to shine in the next sporting event was just around the corner.
