Lady Louise Windsor - Male companion triggers speculation
A classmate - or is there more to it? This is the question preoccupying many British media outlets following photographs of Lady Louise Windsor (20) at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials, attended by a male companion.
The Sandringham Trials hold special significance for her
The niece of King Charles III (75) has spent most of her life out of the limelight. The eldest child of Prince Edward (60) and Duchess Sophie (59) is, like her grandfather Prince Philip (1921-2021), an avid carriage driver. Three years ago, she made her debut as an event rider. At the competition held on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, she participated for the first time last Friday (28th June). The Sandringham Trials were founded by Prince Philip in 1982 and have taken place every weekend after Royal Ascot since then. Prince Philip was also the one who inspired her interest in the sport and encouraged her. Therefore, Sandringham is a significant place for Lady Louise, who was photographed laughing and chatting with the young man.
British HELLO! published the images and reported that the "mysterious man" was Felix da Silva-Clamp, a classmate at the University of St. Andrews where Lady Louise studies English literature. They are said to be connected through their passion for amateur theatre. According to "Hello!", they appeared together in a production called "Dragon Fever" at the Byre Theatre of the University. Da Silva-Clamp is reported to have attended Melbourne Grammar School in Australia and worked at an ice cream shop in St. Andrews. A colleague described him to the magazine as a "lovely person".
"They seemed very comfortable with each other"
The young man seems to have won over Lady Louise's mother, Duchess Sophie. She is said to have driven him to the event. After her first competition, Lady Louise took her companion on a carriage ride. The 20-year-old wore a beige riding coat, gloves, and a helmet, while he opted for a casual chinstrap harness, a blue jacket, and a baseball cap.
"They seemed very comfortable with each other," a spectator reported. "They engaged in conversation and appeared open with one another. They even went for a few walks together between their two competitions, suggesting they are quite close." It's worth noting that this isn't the first royal romance to have blossomed on a university campus: Lady Louise's cousin Prince William (42) met his wife Kate (42) at St. Andrews.
