Madonna celebrates her "Original Godfather"
A young Madonna lost her mother, but she's still close to her dad. To celebrate his 93rd birthday, the singer shared fond memories on Instagram from their photo album.
Madonna dedicated her dad's 93rd birthday on Instagram with a sweet post filled with pictures, affectionately referring to him as her "OG Daddy." The images showed Madonna and Silvio Ciccone over the years, from backstage hugs to childhood portraits. "Happy birthday for riding the roller coaster of life with intact humor and understanding," she said. She also thanked him for his life motto, "I'll go until the wheels fall off."
She also reposted a black-and-white photo from her dad's 90th birthday, where Silvio is seen with a cane, receiving a warm hug from his daughter. In that post, Madonna wrote about the mechanic, who grew up as an Italian immigrant, endured many hardships but worked hard to achieve his dreams. It was he who taught her the value of hard work and earning a living.
However, it wasn't until Mother's Day that Madonna honored her mom, Madonna Louise, who died of breast cancer when Madonna was just five years old. Revealing her pain, Madonna recalled the day she said goodbye to her mom, who she later realized was dying: "I got into the van and closed the door, not knowing it would be the last time I'd see her." She grieved for her mother, who married her dad in 1955 and together had six children, and felt her missing presence when her dad remarried Joan Gustafson and had two more children. Despite sadness, Madonna cherishes the memories.
Madonna remains close with her siblings as well.
