Liverpool-Star quarrels with fans, "Disaster" in Copa

The Copa America semifinal between Colombia and Uruguay has just ended, and an unpleasant post-match scene is forming on the pitch. Liverpool star Darwin Núñez and other Uruguayans are brawling with opposing fans.

Liverpool star Darwin Núñez was involved in a brawl with Colombian fans during the Copa America semifinal between Colombia and Uruguay. Television footage showed the 25-year-old and some Uruguayan teammates climbing onto the pitch after their 0:1 loss to engage in a melee - all apparently to protect their families.

"This is a disaster. Our family was in danger, and there was no police nearby," said Uruguay's captain José María Giménez: "We had to go to the pitch to retrieve our loved ones with small newborn babies."

There was no separation of fan zones at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The vast majority of spectators were part of the Colombian fanbase. After the game ended, unrest broke out around the Uruguayan family block, which was likely instigated by Colombian fans. The fights were only stopped by the police after several minutes.

"This happens at every game because there are people who don't know how to handle a few drinks," said Giménez. The Atletico Madrid defender hoped that "those who organize such things will be a little more careful with families in the future."

The South American football federation and Copa organizers CONMEBOL condemned "all acts of violence that affect football in the strongest terms" and called for "no tolerance for intolerance on and around the field." The situation on the field also heated up after the game, with players and staff from both teams clashing in the center circle.

Darwin Núñez, being a key player for both Copa America representative Uruguay and English Premier League club FC Liverpool, was unfortunate to be caught in the post-match brawl following Uruguay's loss to Colombia. Despite the commotion, Núñez and his Uruguayan teammates took it upon themselves to ensure the safety of their families amidst the chaos.
