Liverpool commences with a triumph and Salah sets a milestone in his post-Klopp tenure.
Liverpool FC triumphs in post-Klopp period: The Reds faced off against Ipswich in front of pop sensation Ed Sheeran, ultimately claiming a hard-earned triumph. Striker Mo Salah etched his name in the record books.
Arne Slot enjoyed a triumphant start as Jürgen Klopp's replacement at Liverpool FC during their Premier League opener on Saturday. Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over the newly promoted Ipswich Town, despite a rocky beginning. Slot, who was recruited from Feyenoord Rotterdam, took over from Klopp following the latter's departure after nine years.
Goals from Diogo Jota (60') and standout forward Mohamed Salah (65') ensured that Slot's opening game ended in victory. Slot's home debut is planned for September 4 against Brentford, with his first notable milestone being the confrontation against bitter rivals Manchester United on September 1.
Slot chose Jota as the leading striker, while Darwin Nunez and Euro sensation Cody Gakpo warmed the bench in the first half. Ipswich appeared to be the more menacing side in the early stages of Slot's tenure, with just minutes remaining until halftime, Trent Alexander-Arnold (45') had a chance but shot the ball over the bar.
Liverpool finally found their stride in the second half. Jota (59') narrowly missed the target with a close-range header, but he quickly made amends with a precise finish after a pass from Salah. The Egyptian then added to the tally with a sublime assist from Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool's top scorer Salah also established himself as the sole Premier League record-breaker during his 350th appearance for the Reds on the opening day of the season. This is the seventh time in eight years that Salah has achieved this feat in the Premier League, except for last year's opening draw against Chelsea. Salah previously shared this record with Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, and Frank Lampard, all of whom are now retired.
Arsenal, who finished second last season, will go head-to-head with Wolverhampton Wanderers (4 pm/Live stream on RTL+), while reigning champions Manchester City challenge Chelsea on Sunday.
Arne Slot's victory with Liverpool FC in their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town marked his first win in the prestigious league as Klopp's successor. In the same Premier League campaign, Liverpool, led by Salah, secured a 2-0 victory against Manchester United, further highlighting their strength in the competition.
