- Letter of condolence for pizza makers
Prince William (42) and his wife Princess Kate (42) created a special moment at the funeral of Welsh pizza maker Peter Morris. They wrote a letter to his widow, which was read out at the funeral.
"We can only begin to imagine the huge void he will leave in your life, and my heart is with you and your family," the letter said, according to the newspaper "The Sun" which had the letter. The letter was printed on Kensington Palace letterhead and signed by William himself with "My deepest sympathies."
Meeting at the Food Truck
The royal couple met Peter Morris, who passed away in May at the age of 47 from cancer, at his food truck last year. In April 2023, they bought 22 pizzas from "Little Dragon Pizza Van" in South Wales for the members of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team. Pictures show William and Kate picking up the boxes personally from Morris and chatting with him.
The brief encounter seemed to have made an impression on the royals. "Catherine and I were delighted to meet Pete. We know that Pete was an incredibly dedicated and highly regarded member of the community, as the reactions to his passing have shown," William said in the message. He added, "I want you to know how much you and your family are in our thoughts at this time."
Surprise for the Widow
The condolence letter was a "big surprise" for Peter Morris' wife, she told the newspaper. "I don't even know how they found out about Pete's passing. Maybe it touched them because Kate is currently in treatment."
Princess Kate made her father-in-law, King Charles III (75),'s cancer diagnosis public at the beginning of the year.
Peter Morris praised the royal couple for their down-to-earth nature after their meeting. "We've received so many letters from people who loved Pete, but the one from William and Kate was something special," his widow added. The letter will now be framed for Morris' daughters, who are five and eight years old.
Princess Kate mentioned Peter Morris' passing to Prince William due to her own father-in-law's cancer diagnosis, which she made public at the beginning of the year. Despite not knowing about Morris' passing immediately, Prince William and Princess Kate wrote a heartfelt condolence letter, expressing their deep sympathy and appreciation for Morris' contributions to the community.
