Matchday 13 - Leipzig in fourth place with difficulty - Gladbach stops Hoffenheim
After two recent defeats in competitive matches, RB Leipzig have bounced back to fourth place in the Bundesliga.
Coach Marco Rose 's team won with some difficulty against newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim 2:1 (2:1) and at least temporarily overtook runners-up Borussia Dortmund, who will not play their top-of-the-table match at leaders Bayer Leverkusen until Sunday.
VfL Wolfsburg suffered their sixth away defeat in a row with a 3:1 (1:2) loss at VfL Bochum. Borussia Mönchengladbach came away with a 2:1 (0:0) win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who lost away from home for the first time. FC Bayern Munich's home match against Union Berlin was called off due to the heavy snowfall.
In Leipzig, Lois Openda scored his tenth goal of the season from the penalty spot (29') and Yussuf Poulsen (44') to secure victory for Leipzig, who had recently lost twice in the league at VfL Wolfsburg (1-2) and in the Premier League at Manchester City (2-3). The Heidenheim goal by Benedikt Gimber was not enough for the promoted team (45').
First home win for Bochum
Two days after extending his contract until 2026, Bochum coach Thomas Letsch was able to celebrate his first home win of the season. Patrick Osterhage (19th), Bernardo (39th) and Christopher Antwi-Adjej (87th) scored for the Westphalians, while only Mattias Svanberg was able to reduce the deficit for Wolfsburg (45th).
In Mönchengladbach, Alassane Plea scored a penalty (58') and Nathan Ngoumou (80') for the hosts, while only Wout Weghorst (60') reduced the deficit for Hoffenheim. The sixth-placed Kraichgauers, who had previously picked up 16 out of a possible 18 points away from home, thus came away empty-handed.
Weather chaos in Munich
Meanwhile, FC Bayern were thwarted by the weather chaos. Extreme snowfall led to the match against Union Berlin being called off. Above all, safety concerns due to avalanches on the roof of the Allianz Arena and the tense traffic situation meant that the match could not be played. A replay date has not yet been set.
This leaves Union Berlin in last place in the table for the time being, as 1. FC Köln moved out of the relegation places with a 1:0 win at promoted SV Darmstadt 98 on Friday.
