Legendary US soccer figure Alex Morgan bids farewell as she features in the closing moments of her outstanding profession.

The 35-year-old, who recently declared her retirement from the sport, was replaced in the 13th minute, a number she frequently wore throughout her career, and was greeted with a standing ovation by everyone present at the Snapdragon Stadium in southern California.

A teary-eyed Morgan then pulled off her cleats right in the middle of the field, before exiting the pitch.

She reappeared on the field following the final whistle to speak to the thousands of spectators who had chosen to stay.

"I owe a big thank you to my teammates, who have kept pushing me every day and helped me improve. I also want to express my gratitude to my family, who have stood by me, given up so much for me," she expressed in her emotional farewell speech.

"There have been many amazing moments in my career, but this one, this final moment I spend with you on the field, I will keep close to my heart forever. So thank you, from the depths of my soul, thank you."

She had the chance to bid farewell in style earlier in the game, but her penalty attempt in the 10th minute was saved by the goalkeeper.

Morgan concludes her professional journey with an autograph session following her last match.

Morgan announced her retirement last week through a heartfelt video on social media that lasted over four minutes. During this video, she also revealed that she was expecting her second child.

Morgan's daughter Charlie joined her for her final walk onto the pitch and presented her with a bouquet of flowers once the final whistle had blown.

The renowned forward retires having clinched two World Cup titles with the USWNT and an Olympic gold medal in 2012.

Morgan also managed to score 123 goals for her country, placing her fifth on the all-time USWNT goal scorers list.

After announcing her retirement from football, Morgan expressed her gratitude to her teammates and family during her emotional farewell speech. Despite missing her chance to bid farewell with a goal in the 10th minute, she cherished the final moment she spent on the field playing football.

In the 10th minute of the match, Morgan's penalty attempt was successfully prevented.
