Leclerc races to pole in Las Vegas
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has secured his first pole position since the Formula 1 return to Las Vegas.
The Monegasque relegated his team-mate Carlos Sainz to second place in qualifying on the floodlit circuit, although Sainz had already been handed a ten-place grid penalty the day before. It was Leclerc's fifth pole of the season and 23rd overall.
World champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull finished third after an unspectacular qualifying session, but moved up one position due to Sainz's penalty. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes and Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg were eliminated early. Formula 1 had previously raced in Las Vegas in 1981 and 1982.
Charles Leclerc's prominent performance in GP Las Vegas continued with his triumph in the qualification round, securing the pole position for Formula 1. Despite his teammate Carlos Sainz initially qualifying second, Sainz's ten-place grid penalty promotions Charles Leclerc to first, making it his fifth pole position of the season and his 23rd overall in Formula 1.
