Leader Kane snatches Lewandowski's record
Harry Kane, who else? The FC Bayern super striker shines against Stuttgart and shoots Munich out of their mini-crisis. After his two goals, Kane sees his team's "best performance of the season" - and also equals a record set by Robert Lewandowski.
Bayern, once again led by double-packer Harry Kane, were able to enjoy the Christmas lights show after their top-of-the-table performance in their final home game of the year. Thanks to the Englishman's 19th and 20th goals of the season (in 14 games!), the decimated German serial champions did not let league leaders Bayer Leverkusen get away. On Sunday evening in the Allianz Arena, Munich dominated VfB Stuttgart 3:0 (1:0) in the Bundesliga, even without national team players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, who were ill - from the first to the last minute of the game.
That was mainly down to superstar striker Kane, the Bundesliga's top scorer (20 goals and five assists). "It was probably our best performance of the season," he said on DAZN: "We had really good intensity. We showed how dominant we can be in a big game." The Englishman was once again the match-winner. After a mini-slump of three competitive games without a goal of his own, the 30-year-old scored two goals or more in the 2nd and 55th minutes for the sixth time in the league.
Kane is only the third player in Bundesliga history to score 20 goals by the winter break or earlier. Lewandowski also only needed 14 games to achieve this record in his record-breaking 20/21 season. Gerd Müller was not quicker either.
Kane sets Bayern's home-game record
Bayern have now scored at least once in their 64th consecutive Bundesliga home game, equaling their record from 1970 to 1974. "It's nice when I can help the team with my goals," said a delighted Kane after the win. Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß, who is probably enjoying the German record transfer more and more every weekend, also cheered and rejoiced in the stands of the Allianz Arena.
Munich were desperate to bounce back from last week's shock 5-1 defeat to Frankfurt and it took Kane just two minutes to make the first statement and get their dream start off to a perfect start. After Atakan Karazor lost the ball, Thomas Müller set up the starting Leroy Sané. The international danced past Alexander Nübel, who had been loaned to VfB by FC Bayern and was running out of his goal, and then fed his number 9. The Englishman was able to slot the ball in with ease.
Once again, it was Kane's goals that gave the rebuilt Bayern team confidence. He doubled the lead in the 55th minute when he headed in unchallenged after a cross from youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic.

After securing a 3:0 victory over VfB Stuttgart, Harry Kane praised Bayern Munich's top-tier performance, equaling their record-breaking 64-game scoring streak at home. In the Bundesliga, Kane became the third player to score 20 goals by the winter break, equalizing Robert Lewandowski's impressive record from the 20/21 season.
Facing off against Bayer Leverkusen for their final home game, FC Bayern Munich needed a strong showing to remain on top of the league. With Harry Kane scoring their first goal within two minutes, the team was able to regain their form and clinch a 3:0 victory, which ultimately helped them break Bayern's home-game scoring record of 64 consecutive games with at least one goal.
