Laughter, Shocks, and Sticky Predicaments. Delightful Photos from the Comedy Wildlife Photography Contest
Forty images, four portfolio pieces, and three video submissions made it to the preliminary round of this year's competition, as per a statement released on Thursday by the organizers.
Among the other entries, some of which can be viewed in the display area above, are a tern that crashed landed, an owllet feeling awkward, and cubs of a lazy bear clinging onto their mother for a lift.
As per Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe's senior marketing manager, these images not only exemplify the amusement and allure of wildlife but also underscore the significance of conservation, striking a chord with individuals from various age groups and backgrounds.
Nikon is proud to be associated with a competition that harmoniously combines enjoyment and awareness of our natural environment's beauty.
Approximately 8,900 submissions from 98 countries were received for this year's competition. The jury team will go through these entries meticulously.
Additionally, there is a "People's Choice Award" which allows the public to cast their vote on the competition's official website.
Every year, the competition supports a sustainable conservation organization. For 2024, the Whitley Fund for Nature, a UK-based charity that aids conservation pioneers from across the global south, has been chosen.
In the words of Tom Sullam, co-founder of the awards, this has been an "extraordinary year" for the competition.
"It's an honor to be a part of this exhilarating adventure, which makes us laugh and fosters our understanding of animal conservation," said Sullam.
The overall winner, category winners, and highly commended entries will be unveiled at a ceremony in London on December 10.
All the finalists will be showcased in an exhibition at theGallery@Oxo in London from December 10-16.
Traveling to different parts of the world can inspire extraordinary wildlife photography, as shown by the diverse submissions received for this year's competition. Many of the entries demonstrate the importance of preserving our natural habitats, encouraging both enjoyment and awareness of the beauty in our environment.
