Last line-up of the top match-Bayern overruns Stuttgart
One week after the humiliation at Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Bayern bounced back in impressive fashion. With their personnel severely affected, the Munich side paved the way to victory against surprise team VfB Stuttgart in the 2nd minute. Even two offside goals did not stop Tuchel's team.
Thanks to a demonstration of power, a tactically excellent FC Bayern kept pace with league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The record champions, who were severely weakened in terms of personnel, deservedly won the top match against VfB Stuttgart 3:0 (1:0) and also showed a strong reaction in the league a week after the debacle in Frankfurt.
Goalscorer Harry Kane (2nd, 55th) with his 19th and 20th goals of the season and Min-Jae Kim (63rd) rewarded Munich for a tactically and playfully excellent performance. The previous surprise team from Stuttgart were unable to put up any resistance against coach Thomas Tuchel's team and conceded their fourth defeat of the season after their recent dominant performances.
It was no coincidence that Tuchel had already spoken of a "major challenge" in the run-up to the summit meeting. The 50-year-old's decision to completely reshuffle his midfield may have come at a bad time. Both Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka were missing due to a flu-like infection, with Raphael Guerreiro and youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic moving into the starting line-up.
Tuchel has full confidence in his team
"We would have liked it to be different, of course," said Tuchel, who reshuffled his midfield in three of five positions with the addition of Thomas Müller, on DAZN ahead of the game: "But the team that's on the pitch has our confidence. I hope that everyone is ready."
His hope was confirmed after just 83 seconds. After a misplaced pass from Atakan Karazar, Müller switched quickly, Leroy Sane got to the ball before the onrushing Alexander Nübel and crossed for Kane, who only had to slot home. A dream start for Bayern.
VfB immediately tried to respond, but were often too hectic and opened up space for Munich's counter-attacks. However, Konrad Laimer (8) was just as inaccurate as Maximilian Mittelstädt (16) at the other end. The supposed 2:0 by Kim (25) was also disallowed for offside.
Kim scores his first league goal
Stuttgart remained the slightly more active team with around 70 percent possession. Bayern continued to rely on counter-attacks - and were far more dangerous than the visitors. Sane (29, 37), Kane and Jamal Musiala (45) missed the best chances before another Bayern goal by Müller (45+2) was again ruled out for offside.
However, the Munich side refused to be deterred by this and the second half was hardly any different. Stuttgart gritted their teeth against Bayern's remarkably solid defensive block - and the home side got off to another perfect start. A free-kick cross from Pavlovic was extended to Kane at the second post, who scored again into an empty net. Kim's debut goal was the decider.
