King Frederik X and Queen Mary - Last dates on your Greenland trip
King Frederik X. (56) and Queen Mary (52) conclude their first official visit to Greenland on July 6. The program includes engagements in Narsaq and Qassiarsuk in the south.
This marks the end of the journey that the royal couple embarked on since June 29, leading them in a non-stop schedule across the largest island in the world. They were supported throughout by their two youngest children, Prince Vincent (13) and Princess Josephine (13).
On the official Instagram account of the Royal House, there were many glimpses. "Green valleys and icebergs on the sea greeted Their Majesties, the King and the Queen, in South Greenland," it read approximately on the second-to-last day. Mary and Frederik spent the night from July 5 to July 6 in the small village of Igaliku. It is located in the area, "where the ship of Erik the Red arrived more than 1,000 years ago," as the Palace noted. The way to the village took the royal couple along the "King's Road," named after the visit of Frederik's grandfather, King Frederik IX. (1899-1972), in 1952. This moment was therefore special for the Danish Royals.
Frederik's love for Greenland
On July 5, the King also made a declaration of love: "Can one lose one's heart for a people and a country? Yes, I can confirm that. Greenland holds a special meaning for my family and for me. Queen Mary and I are therefore incredibly happy to be here with Prince Vincent Minik and Princess Josephine Ivalo."
Shock for Queen Mary
During the journey, Queen Mary experienced a shocking situation: On July 4, she was run over by a motorbike in the capital Nuuk while standing among a crowd of people. This was shown in video recordings that the Danish newspaper "Ekstra Bladet" published. Many people came to the Queen's aid, and a personal guard also rushed to help. Fortunately, the 52-year-old does not seem to have been injured, as she continued with her engagements as if nothing had happened.
