Rugby legend Rob Burrow sadly passed away on June 2nd, 2024, aged just 41, after battling Motor Neuron Disease (MND). The royal couple, Prince William and Princess Kate, have now paid their respects with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. Their post reads: "A giant in the world of Rugby League, Rob Burrow had an enormous heart."

William continued with a quote from the late athlete: "In a world full of challenges, we must dare to dream." The caption also extends their sympathies to Rob's wife Lindsey and their three children, signed with a W for William. Rob's family describes him as a constant inspiration, not only in his rugby career but also in his fight against MND.

Rob Burrow's Award-Winning Fight Against MND

Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND in 2019, just two years after his retirement. MND is a progressive disorder that leads to muscle wasting. Determined to make a difference, he joined forces with his former teammate, Kevin Sinfield (43), to raise awareness and funds for research.

As recognition for his phenomenal rugby career and his remarkable work against MND, Burrow was awarded the prestigious Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2021. Princess Kate presented the honor to him in person. Prior to that, Prince William had handed out an award for Burrow's achievements in January 2024.

Rob Burrow - A Role Model for All

Following his death, Rob Burrow's family shared a heartfelt message about their loved one: "Rob was always an inspiration, both on and off the rugby field, and in his battle against MND. He never allowed anyone to set limitations on his capabilities and continued to push through." They added, "The outpouring of love and support Rob and his family received over the past four and a half years meant so much to him."
