Kylian Mbappé shifts to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain.
Kylian Mbappé, a Champions League winner and France's World Cup champion, is moving from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Real Madrid, two days after the Spanish team's victory in the 15th European Cup. This high-profile transfer could enhance Real's already-talented attack, which features standouts like Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham. Mbappé's admiration for Madrid dates back to his childhood, and he considered leaving PSG long before signing a three-year contract extension in 2022.
During his time at PSG, Mbappé became the club's record scorer while playing over 300 games, scoring his 250th goal in March 2023 and winning the Ligue 1 title later in April. However, he has yet to add a Champions League title to his impressive resume. Real Madrid, a team with an extraordinary European success record, may offer that opportunity, having won the competition six times in the past ten years.
In 2021, Real Madrid made an $188 million offer for Mbappé, but he ultimately resumed his commitment to PSG by signing a contract extension. However, his long-standing interest in the Spanish club remained.
Mbappé originally came to PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a reported $214 million, which made him the second most expensive player ever at the time.
