Kylian Mbappé experiences a "very special day"
Wins in the league are nothing special for soccer superstar Kylian Mbappé anymore. But the latest one against FC Metz will remain in his memory. Not only because he scored on his birthday, but also because it was the first time he had played on the pitch with his brother in a professional match.
Kylian Mbappé led Paris Saint-Germain to another victory with two goals on his 25th birthday - and played together with his brother for the first time for the French top club. The 16-year-old Ethan Mbappé came on for Manuel Ugarte in the final minutes of the 3-1 win against FC Metz and made his professional debut.
"I'm very happy. It's great for Ethan but even more for me as a big brother," said Kylian Mbappé after the game. "I thought it would be a special day for me and I'll remember this game for a long time. Ethan coming off the bench was the most important thing that night, even though winning and scoring goals is always special." The big name won't slow his brother down, said Kylian Mbappé: "I'm sure he'll play many more games and will be up to the task."
Coach Luis Enrique praised the younger of the Mbappé brothers for his versatility: "He can play in different positions, not just as a pivot," said the Spaniard. The youngster is "intelligent when it comes to finding spaces". Ethan Mbappé joined PSG's youth ranks in 2017, while his brother joined the professional team from AS Monaco at the same time.
Before replacing his brother, the soccer superstar had scored twice at the end of the first half of the season (60th/83rd minute). Vitinha (49) had previously given PSG the lead. Matthieu Udol (72') only managed to score an interim equalizer for the visitors. PSG now lead the Ligue 1 table by five points ahead of OGC Nice after the short winter break.
