Krejcikova fights sensationally to Wimbledon victory

Surprise Wimbledon Final Ends with Barbora Krejcikova's Victory: The Czech Player Wins Her Biggest Career Success as Jasmine Paolini Loses Second Grand-Slam Final in Few Weeks

Barbora Krejcikova, a 28-year-old Czech tennis player, has become the Wimbledon champion for the first time. She won the surprise final in London against her Italian opponent Jasmine Paolini, 28, with a score of 6:2, 2:6, 6:4. After 1 hour and 56 minutes, Krejcikova converted her third match point in a nerve-wracking finale and secured her second Grand-Slam title following her French Open victory in 2021.

Krejcikova will now succeed her Czech compatriot Marketa Vondrousova. On Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and Novak Djokovic from Serbia, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, will face off in a repeat of last year's final for the men's title. Krejcikova will enjoy a prize money of approximately 3.2 million Euros. She will move up from her current ranking of 25 in the world and return to the Top Ten on Monday.

Paolini Loses Second Grand-Slam Final

Paolini, the first Italian Wimbledon finalist, receives around 1.7 million Euros. A month ago, she missed her Grand-Slam title debut at the French Open just as she did at Wimbledon. In Paris, she was no match for the world number one Polish player, Iga Swiatek. Determined not to lose, Paolini had to concede defeat to Krejcikova.

This final act in the Women's draw was not expected. The 31st seed (Krejcikova) faced the 7th seed (Paolini). Krejcikova brought final experience to Centre Court from her doubles successes. She had won the doubles competition at the London Church Road in 2022 and 2018. In total, she has seven Grand-Slam titles in doubles and three more in mixed doubles.

Krejcikova started the match two days after her hard-fought semifinal victory against the heavily favored former Wimbledon champion Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. She played significantly better and won the first ten points out of eleven. Her opponent, Rybakina, also struggled with the start.

Krejcikova played consistently against her Italian opponent initially and forced her into the corners. She had a 4:1 lead with two breaks. She played impressively and had won the first set in 35 minutes.

Favorites Crash Out

However, those who thought the second set would continue in the same way with Krejcikova dominating were disappointed. Paolini took the dampener off. She left the court after losing the second set and suddenly became the better player. The second set went clearly to Paolini. The decisive breakthrough was a long and evenly contested one. The decision fell when Krejcikova secured the first break in the third set - with a double fault from Paolini.

In this Wimbledon edition with more than usual upsets among the women, several title favorites had already been eliminated. Australian Open Champion Aryna Sabalenka left due to a shoulder injury just before her first match. Vondrousova, Swiatek, and US Open Champion Coco Gauff exited early. For the six German participants, including Angelique Kerber, it was already over after the first or second round.

Tennis enthusiasts around the world will be eagerly awaiting the Grand Slam Tournaments, including Wimbledon, where Barbora Krejcikova has proven her prowess. The Czech player's victory at Wimbledon adds another feather to her cap, making her a formidable contender in Grand Slam Tennis tournaments.

Barbora Krejcikova's triumph at Wimbledon, her second Grand Slam win, reinforces her position as a top player in the world of Tennis at Grand Slam Tournaments such as Wimbledon, French Open, and others.
