Kompany will not mention any names

Vincent Kompany doesn't intend to comment on individual players and their roles on the field, he says. At the beginning of Bayern Munich's training camp at Tegernsee, the coach remains tight-lipped about personnel matters. He also avoids grand statements about fights.

New Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany refuses to comment on the possible future of individual players. "Names don't cross my mind", explained the coach at the start of the football champions' training camp at Tegernsee.

Last week, Kompany was asked about Joshua Kimmich's position and the status of Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry - both of whom could leave the club. In response to a related journalist's question, Kompany said: "You've spoken about buying and selling. That's not my job."

So far, Bayern have signed defender Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart, midfielder João Palhinha (FC Fulham), and winger Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) in this transfer period. They have spent around 125 million euros on transfer fees for these signings. These acquisitions could influence the team's future structure. Kompany declined to discuss this specifically. He will "not get involved in that. We have 60, 70 games, we need all players. It would be a big mistake to focus on individual players."

Regarding whether he sees Kimmich as a defensive midfielder or right-back in the future, Kompany did not provide a concrete answer. "I understand the question, I really do. But we could go through all the names: Harry Kane, Musiala, what do I think about Goretzka, Serge Gnabry... I could go on like this all evening, but that's not my intention."

"We don't need to make big speeches"

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß had said over the weekend that the club would certainly still have to sell players this summer. "I'm not here to hold a press conference about what Uli Hoeneß said", Kompany remarked. "I have a lot of respect for him. But my job is to focus on my work."

Currently, he has 23 field players and four goalkeepers at the three-day camp in Rottach-Egern. The EM participants will join the team later in the coming days and weeks, and the team departs for a promotional trip to South Korea on July 31.

On this trip, striker Kane will not be present, who reached the EM final with England. The situation is similar for the Canadian Alphonso Davies and the two Frenchmen Kingsley Coman and Dayot Upamecano, who reached the semifinals of the Copa America and the EM.

Kompany avoided making grand statements about the past season in his press conference at the Seehotel Überfahrt in Rottach-Egern. "I don't want to look back too much. What I can say is that such players - the ones we have - always react. It's important that we show a collective reaction. We don't need to make big speeches. But it's important to me that we show that we're determined."

Kompany mentioned Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, and Leon Goretzka during a press conference, but refused to comment on their future with FC Bayern Munich, stating that discussing individual players is not his job.

Uli Hoeness, the honorary president of FC Bayern Munich, predicted that the club would need to sell players this summer, but Kompany did not want to discuss this topic, focusing instead on his own work.

During the team's training camp at Tegernsee, Kompany has 27 players at his disposal, including Hiroki Ito, João Palhinha, and Michael Olise, recent signees who could impact the team's future structure.

Kompany stressed the importance of showing a collective reaction rather than making grand speeches, even as key players like Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman, and Dayot Upamecano are unavailable due to international commitments.
