Klose exchanged coaching roles at his previous team.
Failing to find a more suitable candidate, Lazio Rome is pondering the idea of making Miroslav Klose their new coach. The former German striker, who had a fruitful stint with the club from 2011 to 2016, is just one of the names being considered for the role.
Reports indicate that the Serie A side has recently parted ways with Igor Tudor, a decision that was met with surprise just months after the Croatian coach assumed the position from Maurizio Sarri. Despite having impressed his employers with a string of results that saw Lazio qualify for the Europa League, differences in opinion regarding the club's direction reportedly led to his dismissal.
Klose has, however, not yet ventured into the world of coaching, having only worked at Austrian outfit SCR Altach after being employed in 2020. Despite this lack of experience, his remarkable playing career with Lazio – in which he scored a staggering 71 goals in six seasons – makes him an attractive proposition. Yet he's not the favorite for the job at present, with Marco Baroni standing out as the top contender.
Baroni, who is currently contracted to Hellas Verona, has also drawn interest from AC Monza, leading to a stalemate in negotiations with Lazio regarding a potential deal. Should Baroni finally join the Serie A rivals, Klose may be renewed as the primary alternative. The highly-decorated Klose, who is thirty goals away from the world record, is hopeful of seizing the opportunity. "Yeah, of course. I could be there tomorrow. I will do it," remarked the two-time World Cup winner about the prospect of taking charge at his former club.
Klose's, however, had a brief spell as a coach for SCR Altach, where his tenure concluded abruptly in January 2021 as the club stood perilously close to relegation. Nevertheless, in 2021 he was touted as a possible replacement for Sarri, with several reports even suggesting that he desired the role at the time.
