Olympic Summer Games in Paris - King Philippe swears in Spanish athletes

King Felipe VI. of Spain feels the Olympic spirit well as he represents his country at the Olympic Games. He knows firsthand what it takes to compete at the Olympics, as he himself participated in an Olympic discipline back in 1992. The then-crown prince was a member of the Spanish sailing team and competed in the event. He also had the honor of carrying the Spanish flag during the opening ceremony.

From July 26 to August 11, over 10,000 athletes and athletes from more than 200 Olympic nations will compete in 32 different sports in Paris.

King Felipe VI. and Queen Letizia of Spain have been in Paris for some time now, ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games opening ceremony on Friday evening (July 26). Alongside the Danish royals, King Frederik (56) and Queen Mary (52) of Denmark, Spain's King Felipe VI. (56) and Queen Letizia (51) have been hosting athletes from their respective countries at the Spanish embassy in Paris.

An image series of this meeting, published on the official Instagram account of the Spanish royal family, saw Felipe and Letizia express their version of the Olympic motto "Being there is everything" to the athletes: "The effort you put in to get here is already a success. Enjoy it now and give your best, because you know how to do it."

After the event at the Spanish embassy, the Spanish royal couple attended a gala dinner hosted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Louvre Museum. For Friday evening, they are scheduled to attend the official opening ceremony of the Olympic Summer Games 2024.
