- Kimmich is "very comfortable" in Munich
German national team player Joshua Kimmich is open to discussions with the responsible parties at FC Bayern Munich about extending his contract with the German record champions. After the 2:1 test win against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul, the 29-year-old, whose contract is set to expire next year, has no plans to leave.
"Generally, one can always have reasonable conversations. I believe that everyone has open doors," Kimmich said during the Bayern trip to South Korea when asked about a statement by honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who recently said that Kimmich is a reasonable man with whom one can have reasonable conversations.
Born in Munich, built a house
If there is no agreement on an extension, possibly due to financial aspects, Kimmich could leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. However, this does not seem to be Kimmich's plan. "In general, it's already the case that I feel very comfortable here. All my children were born here, we built a house here," said family man Kimmich, who is about to start his tenth season in Munich.
Kimmich obviously wants to attack again with FC Bayern and with the FC Bayern after the title-less past season. "Of course, the last season was not very successful. That's not the claim of Bayern Munich and also not my own claim. Now it's already the case that I'm very hungry, full of energy for the new season."
In the first game under Kompany again in midfield
For Kimmich, it could also be pleasing that the new coach Vincent Kompany might plan to play him again in midfield and not as a right-back. Against Tottenham, Kimmich played alongside national teammate Aleksandar Pavlovic in central defense. After the break, the double six was occupied by new signing Joao Palhinha and Konrad Laimer.
"In general, we have many good players in that position. Let's see how it will look like in the end," said Kimmich, who, like some other Euro participants, only joined the season preparation this week. He liked the test in the World Cup Stadium in Seoul: "I believe that the game was nice to watch. It went up and down."
"Despite the discussions about extending his contract, Joshua Kimmich expressed his satisfaction with playing for 'FC Bayern Munich' in test matches, such as the 2:1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul."
"Being born and raised in Munich, with all his children born there and a house built, Kimmich's future seems to include more test matches and title challenges with 'FC Bayern Munich'. "
