Kiel wins top game against Füchse Berlin 30:26
Record handball champions THW Kiel have inflicted their first defeat of the season on the Füchse Berlin in the Bundesliga.
The North Germans won 30:26 (14:10) in the sold-out Kiel Arena with 10,285 spectators and kept their title chances alive with 16:10 points. The Berliners are on 21:3 points. The best scorers were Domagoj Duvnjak for THW and Mathias Gidsel for the Foxes with nine goals each.
It was clear from the start that the entire Kiel team wanted to make up for the humiliation of the 18:27 defeat in the Champions League against Aalborg. However, the hosts had major problems with Berlin goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev in the opening spell, who made several outstanding saves. However, as the Foxes made many mistakes in attack, the game remained open at first.
Left wing Magnus Landin gave the home side its first four-goal lead, making it 13:9 in the 28th minute. "You can see that we showed a different face today. We work hard in defense and have good solutions up front," said THW's pivot Patrick Wiencek at the break.
Led by Denmark's Gidsel, the club from Berlin closed the gap again after the break to 19:20 in the 42nd minute. However, Niclas Ekberg's goal to make it 27:22 (55') into the empty Füchse goal set the course for Kiel's victory.
In the thrilling Bundesliga match, men's handball team THW Kiel secured their first victory against Foxes Berlin, scoring 30 goals compared to Berlin's 26. The previous defeat of THW Kiel by Foxes Berlin in the Champions League served as motivation for the record champions, leading to their triumphant performance in the Kiel Arena.
