Katy Perry reworked Harrison Butker's questionable graduation address

Pop star and ex-"American Idol" judge Perry shared an altered version of Butker's May 11 address at Benedictine College, a small Catholic educational institution in Kansas on her social media.

In his original address, Butker referred to LGBTQ+ Pride Month, celebrated in June, as a "deadly sin." He also stated that women's achievements in the home had more significance than their academic or professional goals. Perry reworked Butker's statements to make them more uplifting and encouraging.

The caption on Perry's post reads, "Fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride."

Butker's speech has drawn mixed reactions, with some praising his stance while others criticizing it. He went on to defend his commencement speech at a Regina Caeli Academy gala, a Catholic school group with several locations across the country.

Katy Perry's revised speech emphasized the importance of everyone's achievements, shifting away from Butker's original focus on gender and sexuality, which labeled LGBTQ+ Pride Month as a deadly sin and undermined women's professional goals.

In light of the controversy surrounding Butker's graduation address, Perry's uplifting and inclusive message about the power of individual accomplishments served as a clear counterpoint to the divisive sentiments expressed in the original address.
