- Katharina Wagner: The atmosphere at the festivals is excellent
After the opening week of the Bayreuth Festival, festival director Katharina Wagner is pleased. All performances "have been and are sold out. The atmosphere is excellent," she told us on request. The festival began on July 25 with a new production of "Tristan and Isolde", followed by revivals of "Tannhäuser", "Parsifal", "Holländer" and the four-part "Ring Cycle". While the mood had calmed somewhat regarding the controversial staging concept by Valentin Schwarz compared to the previous two years, there were still audible boos at the end of "Twilight of the Gods". The festival continues until August 27.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for next summer's festival: The Festival plans to present a new production of "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg". Additionally, Christian Thielemann returns as conductor of "Lohengrin" after several years' absence from Bayreuth.
The success of the Bayreuth Festival continues to impress, with Katharina Wagner expressing satisfaction after the opening week. The upcoming summer's festival at Bayreuth includes a new production of "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg" and the return of Christian Thielemann as conductor for "Lohengrin".
