Edna Muller and triathlete Martin Schultz are honored to be the ones carrying the German flag during the Paralympic Games opening ceremony in Paris. At 41, Muller, who's been paralyzed from the waist down, and 34-year-old Schultz, born without a left forearm, will guide the 148-strong German squad down Avenue des Champs-Élysées towards Place de la Concorde on Wednesday (8:00 PM CEST/ZDF).

Müller shared her excitement at a press conference, "This is bloody mental, man!" Having bagged Paralympic gold in both wheelchair basketball and canoeing, her sentiments were echoed by Schultz from Leipzig, "I've had this flag-carrier gig on my mind quite a few times lately. Hell, yes, I was down for it once it was offered!"

Friedhelm Julius Beucher, President of the German Paralympic Committee, announced the ambition of climbing back into the top 10 nations in the medal count. Germany finished 12th at the Tokyo 2021 Summer Games, racking up 43 medals.

Edna Muller expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "It's an absolute honor to represent Germany in France, especially during the Paralympic Games." Martin Schultz added, "I can't wait to carry the flag down Avenue des Champs-Élysées, a dream I've had since watching the Paralympics in France years ago."
