Series A - Juventus star Pogba faces four-year doping ban

French international footballer Paul Pogba is facing the end of his career after testing positive for doping. The Italian anti-doping prosecutor's office applied for a four-year ban against the 30-year-old Juventus midfielder.

Pogba had tested positive for testosterone in August after a Serie A match between Juve and Udinese Calcio. The B sample confirmed the result.

He has been suspended since the beginning of September. Pogba has since admitted to having taken a dietary supplement whose package insert referred to performance-enhancing substances. The 81-time France international rejoined the Italian record champions last year, having previously played for them from 2012 to 2016. However, he has only played occasionally since then. He did not play in the match against Udine either, but only sat on the bench.

It remains to be seen when the decision on the suspension will be made. It is possible that the confession could mitigate the punishment. Pogba's lawyers also argue that the Juve player lacked intent. According to a report in the "Gazzetta dello Sport", the sentence could be reduced from four to two years. Pogba was also under contract with English record champions Manchester United for six years in between.
