Jumping rider Kukuk finishes gold flute sensationally

German show jumpers have been eagerly awaiting an Olympic gold medal for a long time. Christian Kukuk finally breaks the drought: In the jump-off, he keeps his cool and stays fault-free with his horse Checker.

Christian Kukuk sensationally won the gold medal in the individual competition at the Olympic Games in Paris. After a clear round, the 34-year-old secured victory with his stallion Checker in the jump-off against Maikel van der Vleuten from the Netherlands and London Olympic champion Steve Guerdat from Switzerland.

Kukuk thus brought the first individual medal to the German show jumpers since Marco Kutscher in 2004 in Athens, the last German Olympic champion was Ulrich Kirchhoff in 1996 in Atlanta. In Paris, the German riders stood on the podium five times. In total, they have now won 100 medals at the Olympic Games.
