Munich Film Festival - Jessica Lange reveals an acting secret
Oscar-winning actress Jessica Lange does not prepare herself emotionally for emotionally taxing scenes beforehand. "That kills my imagination," the 75-year-old said at the CineMerit Awards ceremony at the Munich Film Festival. She prefers to react directly in a scene and feel raw emotions. "It's spontaneous and feels more real to me."
Lange received the unattributed honorary award of the festival for her contributions to film art. Festival director Christoph Göner praised her during the award ceremony. "She has the great ability to create complex characters with facial expressions, gestures, and language," Göner said.
At the beginning of her career, Lange played the young woman Dwan, who is kidnapped by King Kong in the 1976 film of the same name. Many more roles followed, including in "Tootsie," "Operation Blue Sky," and "Frances." A younger audience knows her from the US series "American Horror Story." She has been awarded numerous times for her acting, including a Tony Award as well as Emmys and two Oscars.
"The Great Lillian Hall": Lange shines in new film
At the Munich Film Festival, her latest work, the drama "The Great Lillian Hall," is being shown. Lange plays a successful Broadway actress who receives the shocking diagnosis of dementia just before the premiere of a new play. With all means, she tries to overcome the rehearsals despite her forgetfulness and keeps her problems from her daughter (Lily Rabe) and her friend Edith (Kathy Bates) a secret. Pierce Brosnan and Jesse Williams also play roles in the film. The film was already shown in the US on HBO.
After the premiere, Lange was celebrated for her intense performance. And she confessed her love for the theater. The audience in the hall is a living, breathing unity, and there is a tangible exchange of energy. "That makes theater absolutely magical for me," Lange said.
On Tuesday, another talent of Lange's takes center stage. In the exhibition "Through her Lens - Photographs by Jessica Lange," the 75-year-old presents a selection of her photographs.
