Jasna Fritzi Bauer offers a personal perspective.
Actress Jasna Fritzi Bauer, well-known for her roles in cinema and TV, notably as police officer Liv Moormann in the Bremen "Tatort", has kept her personal life private until now. In a recent issue of Vogue Germany, she opened up about her long-term relationship with artist Katharina Zorn for the first time. The couple have been together for five years but kept it a secret until now. As Bauer explains, "We feel it's time to move forward and set a new example."
Notorious for their private life, the couple faced the inevitable questions and potential negative reception. Zorn acknowledges this in the double interview, stating, "We've been talking for a long time whether we should make our relationship public, with all that could come with it. We know there will be negative reactions." The pair reside in Berlin with Zorn's daughter Zoe, a common living arrangement that is expected. "Yes, there was a time when we weren't ready for this," says Fritzi Bauer about their newly public status.
The couple's first encounter occurred in the kitchen of their mutual friends in Frankfurt, Zorn reveals. "I walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Jasna was already there. I didn't know her from TV or theater." She found Fritzi Bauer "instantly attractive": "We spent the day together with Zoe, who was only a baby at the time."
Fritzi Bauer openly discussed her sexuality in the interview. "I consider myself bisexual. Done," she says. She has had relationships with both men and women, and feels that she doesn't fit into a predetermined label. "It's more about the person. I usually find women more interesting," she adds, "particularly when getting to know them."
Zorn, who identifies as "not binary, genderfluid", also shared her perspective during the interview. "Before the age of 14, I wanted to be more of a boy. I thought it was cooler, but I couldn't define why I liked my female side so much. Until I discovered the term 'genderfluid', I realized that sometimes I feel more like a man, sometimes more like a woman, and I even dress the part." The term had been missing from Zorn's vocabulary before, leaving her with no way to describe her identity: "Now I have a word for it and am not simply 'the lesbian with a child'."
When they initially met in 2019, Zorn struggled with the publicity surrounding Fritzi Bauer's career: "There were a lot of events happening in Jasna's life, and she always took me along. I would come in through the back door and leave the same way. That led to many arguments, as the situation felt very awkward."
The interview sheds new light on their relationship and personal identities, providing a glimpse into their lives that has rarely been shared before.
