Jannik Sinner wins the thrilling "Derby Azzurro"

Tennis star Jannik Sinner decides the prestigious "Derby Azzurro" at Wimbledon for himself. The number one player in the world from Italy beats his countryman Matteo Berrettini in a thrilling second round match.

Australian Open Champion Jannik Sinner passed the test against his Italian compatriot Matteo Berrettini at Wimbledon and advanced to the third round. The Weltrangliste leader defeated Berrettini, the Wimbledon finalist of 2021, in an exciting and entertaining "Derby Azzurro" with scores of 7:6 (7:3), 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 7:6 (7:4). "We are good friends, we play Davis Cup together, we train together sometimes. It's very hard that we meet in the second round," said Sinner, who now faces Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.

Sinner, who had some trouble in the first round against the strong-playing Yannick Hanfmann from Karlsruhe, was challenged from the start by Berrettini. The 22-year-old remained calm and secured the first two sets. However, the tournament favorite relaxed a bit, and Berrettini was right there to create tension on the full Center Court. In the tiebreak of the decisive set, Sinner showed his resilience and took control of the match.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz remains without a set lost in Wimbledon after a successful second round performance. The Spanish Weltrangliste third place won against the Australian Aleksandar Vukic 7:6 (7:5), 6:2, 6:2 and secured his entry into the third round. There, Alcaraz faces US Pro Frances Tiafoe. In the only previous encounter with Vukic, the Spaniard had won the shorter match. However, the duel took place under completely different circumstances in the qualification of the French Open in 2020. The then 17-year-old was still number 193 in the world, but now he is a three-time Grand Slam tournament winner. The French Open was recently won by the 21-year-old in the final against tennis Olympics gold medalist Alexander Zverev.

In the world of tennis, Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish third-ranked player, continues his dominance at Wimbledon, remaining undefeated in sets after defeating Australian Aleksandar Vukic. Meanwhile, on Center Court, Jannik Sinner showed resilience in the decisive tiebreak against Matteo Berrettini, clinching their "Derby Azzurro" match and securing his spot in the third round of Wimbledon, where he'll face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
