- Jack and Paul Rudd are set to make an appearance.
For the upcoming reimagining of the '90s thriller "Anaconda" by writer-director Tom Gormican, Paul Rudd (55, known for "Ghostbusters: Afterlife") and Jack Black (54, famous for "The Mandalorian") are in discussions to headline the project, as per "Deadline".
Gormican, who also penned the script for "Massive Talent" (2022) starring Nicolas Cage (60) and is scripting "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" (2024), will pen and direct the new "Anaconda" movie. Kevin Etten is noted as co-writer.
The Original Film Gained Unexpected Popularity
Despite the lack of specifics about the project, it's apparent that the film won't be a remake of the 1997 film "Anaconda", which starred Jennifer Lopez (55, known for "Atlas"), Owen Wilson (55, featured in "Ghostbusters: Afterlife"), and Ice Cube (55, from "xXx: Return of Xander Cage") as a National Geographic film crew held captive by a psychotic hunter (played by Jon Voight, 85, in "Megalopolis") seeking to capture the world's largest and most dangerous snake.
The thriller became a surprising success, raking in $136 million globally and spawning four sequels: "Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid" (2004), "Anaconda - Offspring" (2008), "Anacondas - Trail of Blood" (2009), and "Lake Placid vs. Anaconda" (2015).
The Remake Adopts an Unconventional Approach
As detailed by industry publication "Variety", Gormican's movie will present an unconventional angle. It appears to revolve around a group of friends experiencing a midlife crisis who decide to remake their beloved movie from their youth. Unfortunately, their trip into the jungle quickly escalates into a serious predicament.
No definitive roles have been assigned to Black and Rudd as of yet, but two of the main characters are described as a director who double-functions as a wedding videographer, and an actor whose claim to fame was a part in a police series.
The production company has yet to release a statement.
The Re-release of the thriller "Anaconda" is set to feature Paul Rudd and Jack Black, according to recent reports. This new version, directed and co-written by Tom Gormican, takes an unconventional approach by following a group of friends who attempt to remake their favorite movie from their youth, only to find themselves in dangerous circumstances.
