King Charles III. - It opened British Parliament
King Charles III. (75) will deliver the second State Address of his reign at the opening of Parliament. As Sovereign, it is his duty to officially open every new parliamentary session, and it is once again time for this on July 17th.
For the ceremonial occasion, Charles, who has just returned from a two-day visit to the Channel Islands, will deliver his second "King's Speech" in the Lords' Chamber with the royal crown. Following this, he will read out the agenda of the newly elected government for the new session.
Queen Camilla's Birthday Celebration
The parliamentary opening falls on a special day: On July 17th, Queen Camilla also celebrates her 77th birthday. Therefore, the celebrations will be combined: According to the British newspaper "Mirror", Charles will be accompanied by his wife in a carriage procession from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords. In honor of the Queen, there will be two successive gun salutes from the Royal Horse Artillery.
More than 1,100 members of the Armed Forces and 200 horses will line the route. The army stated that "the pomp will be amplified" due to the Queen's birthday falling on the same day as the opening ceremony.

King Charles has been the new British monarch since the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), in September 2022. He had already given the Throne Speech on November 7, 2023, when he opened the current session of Parliament. In May 2022, he was not yet King, but he read the speech in his mother's name, as Prince of Wales, due to her retirement for health reasons.
