Is Joshua Kimmich threatened with a pay cut or transfer?

The FC Bayern has a problem: A report suggests that German record champions Joshua Kimmich may lose out, as they may no longer be willing to pay his exorbitant salary. However, Munich do not want to let go of Kimmich for free. Are Barcelona or Pep Guardiola the saviors?

While the German national team and Joshua Kimmich are preparing for the EURO 2020 quarter-final against Spain, questions are arising about how things will proceed with the right-back and his club, FC Bayern. Kimmich's contract expires in 2025, and Barcelona with trainer Hansi Flick are reportedly interested. According to "Sport Bild," it is unlikely that Bayern and the 29-year-old will come to an agreement on a future. In this case, Kimmich would have to accept wage cuts.

At least a quarter less than his current earnings of around 20 million Euros per year from the German record champions should be expected. Kimmich, who can be used as a right-back and central midfielder, earns this amount from Bayern, for whom he has played since 2015 and made 262 Bundesliga appearances.

Whether Kimmich would agree to this reduction is more than questionable. The relationship between the player and the club is already tense. In a ZDF documentary, Kimmich complained that Bayern left him alone during the Corona pandemic when he had doubts about getting vaccinated. The Bayern bosses were reportedly not pleased. Kimmich recently clarified that the critical statements did not reflect his current relationship with the club. "In general, it's been about two or three years since other people had responsibility," Kimmich said about the quotes. He has not yet received any feedback from Bayern about the documentary.

Will Kimmich join Guardiola at Manchester City?

However, Kimmich has a leverage point. He could let his contract run out and become a free agent in 2025. The Bayern board wants to prevent this, as they need income from player sales to pay for the desired reinforcements (Xavi Simons, Joao Palhinha).

Kimmich has reportedly been on Barcelona and trainer Hansi Flick's wish list for a long time. In England, rumors have recently surfaced that Kimmich could join his former trainer Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. According to "The Sun," Kimmich is considering a reunion with Guardiola. Under the Spanish star coach, he once made his breakthrough at Bayern. Guardiola has been working at Manchester City since 2016.

The British tabloid reports that Kimmich first wants to find out if Guardiola is considering a contract extension at Manchester City. Guardiola is only still bound to the English champions until 2025.

  1. Despite the ongoing contract negotiations with FC Bayern Munich, Joshua Kimmich has reportedly caught the interest of Barcelona and their coach, Hansi Flick.
  2. Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola, is rumored to have his sights set on a potential reunion with Joshua Kimmich, as speculations suggest Kimmich is considering a move to Manchester City.
  3. If Joshua Kimmich's contract negotiations with FC Bayern Munich remain uncertain, it is possible that Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, could provide him with a lucrative offer to join Manchester City once Guardiola's contract extension is confirmed.
