Introduced his own US exchange initiative by Reus.

In Dortmund, Marco Reus found no more prospects, so he needed to switch teams to continue his football journey. This led him and his family towards the USA. He's now part of Los Angeles Galaxy, as reported by their General Manager, Will Kuntz.

The move for Marco Reus to Los Angeles Galaxy was instigated by the player himself. As reported by General Manager Will Kuntz at Reus' introduction in Los Angeles, "I received a call from his team while I was coincidentally on a rooftop terrace in Cologne, asking if I was interested in signing Marco for Galaxy." Reus and Borussia Dortmund did not renew their contract, which was set to expire at the end of the previous season after a twelve-year stint. The two-time German Footballer of the Year signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

"I chose not to prolong my tenure at Dortmund and contemplated my next steps. It was obvious that I wanted to continue playing football," said Reus. "My decision was not to continue in Germany or Europe. I had my first contact with Galaxy in May," said the 35-year-old football pro. "I had other options to explore, but I always stayed loyal. This was my final opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and environment."

However, the transfer to Major League Soccer was not without hurdles. Charlotte FC held the rights to a potential transfer to the USA and had to be financially compensated. "They told us, 'Give us what we want, or Marco doesn't join the MLS.' There are such rules for a reason, but it's irritating in such a moment," said Kuntz. "But usually, you need to persuade a player to join, and we are delighted he wanted to and contacted us."

Reus' role at the current Western Conference leader, Los Angeles Galaxy, is still undefined. This will be discussed in conversations with coach Greg Vanney before his potential debut against Atlanta United on August 24. "He is incredibly versatile, and we want to incorporate him in various areas. That can be in midfield or further forward. His talent speaks for itself, and he will boost our team," said Vanney. For Los Angeles Galaxy, Reus will wear the number 18 on his back - the number that marked the start of his professional career at Rot Weiss Ahlen.

Despite ending his long-term relationship with Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus remained loyal to his roots, considering other opportunities before choosing Los Angeles Galaxy. Upon joining the Galaxy, Borussia Dortmund and Reus parted ways after a decade-long association.
